  Generally speaking, it’s very hard to make me angry but these guys at Bren Mar Apartments have done it. Unfortunately, I still live here and waiting for my lease to end. What a place!
  It has been more than a month since I informed them that there are mice in my apartment. Instead of checking the reason why and how the damn rats were able to come into the apartment, the nice manager gave me a lecture on how to keep all the food items closed. “If there’s no food for them to eat, they won’t come into the apartment”, she explained. In other words, she was saying that I should starve them to death to teach the damn rats a lesson. They gave us “sticky pads”, and “mouse traps”. We caught three of them over a period of about three weeks. I kept telling them that inspect the damn kitchen to see if there’s a rat hole somewhere. They were not convinced. The kitchen started to smell terribly. Last time when I asked them to inspect the kitchen, the maintenance guy asked me if I had seen a mouse? The pest control guy came yesterday and found a dead mouse. Finally, they decided to do the hard work and inspected the kitchen for a possible hole today. They found a big hole under the dishwasher and closed it. Luckily I was at work. It would have been really hard to control my anger. So, hopefully no more rats. It would take a while before I can forget this rat problem.
  There is a lot more to say about this wonderful place. Just a quick few hints:
  1. You have to call them quite a few times for the same problem. If you call them often, it sounds like they think that “you” are the problem.
  2. Be careful when giving them the notice to vacate. If you were supposed to give them a two months notice and you missed it by a day or two, consider yourself in a rat hole. The option is going to be either renew your lease term or give them a lot of money. Living here for another month or two to make up for this mistake wouldn’t work. I experienced it myself. I was so angry when it happened to me. I almost wanted to take them to the court. I extended the lease instead. Going to court hearings and paying lawyer fees doesn’t work for most people. Living month to month after your lease is expired doesn’t work at this place either. They charge you a lot for that option. It’s so much extra that you will bite your fingers.
  3. Floors are noisy. They are probably made of wood. When someone walks on the floor above, you can hear it.
  4. Bathroom and kitchen doesn’t have any exhaust system. Kitchen has a fan that blows inside. Opening widows while cooking is the only option. From the outside, it does look like a nice complex.
  
  If you have no other place to live, come to Bren Mar Apartments. There are probably other places worse than this. This is my first bad experience.
